The Song of Slaanesh: Prelude
In the introduction of this series I lay down the rules, tell you which army I will be collecting and invite you all the join in with the fun project.
A while back Paul Sawyer ran a series of articles in White Dwarf titled “The Lure of the Gods”. In these articles Paul documented the creation of a Warhammer Fantasy Chaos Army as he spent £30 a month on miniatures. I really enjoyed this series, it showed how an army could be built on a budget, how armies grow and evolve. So for the first series of articles here at Scorched Archive I will be writing my own Lure of the Gods.
Why?
Ever since I started considering getting back into the hobby I knew it would be a cool idea to run a blog parallel to it. I held off purchasing miniatures and tools whilst I got this website together. So really, this first series is the focus of Scorched Archive for now.
The Rules
I will be following the same format that Paul did those many years ago, having a limited budget to spend on models each month. I can never spend over this budget but anything I don’t spend will be carried over to the next month. I have added an extra £5 to the limit, taking the total to £35 because of the recent price rises. I will also include modeling materials in that budget as I think it will give a much clearer overview on how much it really costs to get started with the hobby. There is one exception to the rule and that is the first purchase. It really isn’t possible to buy all you need to get started with just £35, but you will be able to see how much I actually spent in the next article.
The Army
Finally, the army I have decided to collect are the Emperors Children, Chaos Space Marines dedicated to the chaos god Slaanesh. This is where the title for these articles came from. I previously collected a Black Legion army and really wanted to come back to Chaos. The chance for conversion is just unmatched and they are pretty rock hard on the tabletop.
Hopefully this series of articles is going to be an interesting insight into collecting an army from scratch, if you think this sounds like fun why don’t you join in? Get yourself a blog over on Wordpress.com and post a link to it in the comments.

Hey Andy, stumbled across this site via your personal one, awesome idea! I’d love to join in incidentally, although I’ll be away for two months from Sunday!
Pity as well since I have a box of unpainted Dark Angel marines to start my collection waiting for me!

This might just be what I need to help motivate me to get working on my Tyranid and Hordes of Chaos armies.
